Spot trading refers to the practice of using one cryptocurrency as the base currency to trade with another cryptocurrency. In this type of transaction, the buyer uses one cryptocurrency to purchase another, or the seller sells one cryptocurrency to obtain another.
Example: A transaction where Bitcoin is the base currency and Ethereum is the trading currency is called Bitcoin/Ethereum trading. In this transaction, the buyer uses Bitcoin to purchase Ethereum, or the seller sells Ethereum to obtain Bitcoin.
